Having just celebrated 45 years of serving the Chicagoland area, The Lighthouse Church of All Nations is embarking on a new journey. Founded by Rev. Dr. Dan Willis in 1977, the church grew from 15 people to 5,000 members and is well-respected throughout the world for its integrity, love and commitment to helping others.
Rev. Dr. Dan Willis, affectionately known as, “Pastor Dan”, has led as Senior Pastor for these past 45 years and is excited to announce his elevation to Bishop. The new Senior Pastor of The Lighthouse Church of All Nations is Rev. Garland Mays, Jr. Pastor Garland and his wife Pastor Farida have been members and ministers for many years, leading as Youth Pastors for nearly 15 years. Parents of three sons, they realize the importance of strong families and the role communities of faith play.
This change does not mean “retirement” for Bishop Dan though! His new role allows him to mentor and oversee The Lighthouse while also elevating his opportunities for television ministry, writing, speaking and teaching.
“Except the LORD build the house, They labour in vain that build it: Except the LORD keep the city, The watchman waketh but in vain.” Psalm 127:1 KJV
Garland Mays, Jr. believes that his first ministry is his family; therefore, his roles as faithful husband and loving father are his most notable achievements. He and his wife of 23 years, Farida, are the supportive parents to three sons: Dorian, Gabriel and Isaiah, who are all active in ministry. Their team-oriented style of serving as youth pastors for over 18 years have left an indelible impact on thousands of Chicagoland young people, as they embody the order of a biblical family.
As an Air Force veteran, ordained pastor for over twenty years and owner of a thriving industrial electrical company, Pastor G, as he is affectionately called, is no stranger to discipline, structure and hard work. Consequently, his elevation to senior pastor of The Lighthouse Church of All Nations aligns with his passion to see souls saved, God’s people prosper and the church body become a united community of believers. Pastor Garland’s purpose is to continue the vision of building a multicultural church tearing down the walls of racism and division in the kingdom of God.
“But without faith, it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Hebrews 11:6
Farida Mays has become a highly sought-after motivational speaker due to her emphatic delivery of life-changing messages for women of all generations. Although she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Northern Illinois University, Farida attributes her notable personal growth to being Garland’s wife of 23 years, mother to sons: Dorian, Gabriel and Isaiah, serving alongside her husband as a youth pastor for over 18 years, and building a successful business within an international cosmetics company.
Farida’s elevation to first lady of The Lighthouse Church of All Nations complements her nurturing spirit, in addition to fueling her mission to empower men and women to believe bigger and become all that God has created them to be.
